GoodnewsEverybody.com Social Issues-Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Homosexual, Transexual, etc.. Outreach
Are you gay, homosexual, lesbian, bisexual, transexual etc...? Well, I want to welcome you to my personal website from my personal experiences and friendship with people that have a similar background. I honestly never been homosexual, but I have had thoughts about it. They were basically "stuff" that runs in your mind coming out of nowhere. As a Christian (see personal testimony), I want to show my love towards homosexuals through this website. Please let me know how I could be a resource to you through prayer, needs, or just someone to talk with.
Of all my homosexual friends, I've found a common trend. It happened in the past when they were young and was sexually abused by someone they knew. It's very sad that this had to happen. Feel free to share me your stories or what you think about this?
Below is a case study sent to me by e-mail from a christian brother in the Twin Cities with my response:
Case Study 1:
Your longtime friend, Darnell, comes to you one day and wants to talk. He is not a Christian, and has shown little interest in matters of faith. Recently, however, he has begun to ask searching questions about the meaning of his life. He respects your faith, and is willing to listen to you.
I just heard some preacher on the radio, he says, going on about homosexuality. What is it with Christians and homosexuality? Doesnt the Bible prohibit all sorts of things that we do everyday? I seem to remember that the Bible says you cant wear clothes made out of two kinds of fabric, or eat shellfish or pork. And doesnt the Bible also say women cant wear gold or pearls? Why is homosexuality such a big deal then? You know Im not a homosexual, but I dont see why it has to be such a big issue. Whats the difference between that and the other things that are prohibited?
What would you say to Darnell?

Response #1:
The Bible is more than what is or what isn't prohibited. The Old Testament (before Jesus' time) was a book of laws-on what you can or you can't do. That is why Jesus came, to take place of the law. Below is an argument between Paul and Peter over the Jewish custom/law on "circumsision" that is similar to the list of "prohibition" mentioned in the Old Testament:
11When Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong. 12Before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group. 13The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray.
14When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter in front of them all, "You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs?
15"We who are Jews by birth and not 'Gentile sinners' 16know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.
17"If, while we seek to be justified in Christ, it becomes evident that we ourselves are sinners, does that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not! 18If I rebuild what I destroyed, I prove that I am a lawbreaker. 19For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. 20I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"-Galatians 2
As mentioned in verse 14 and 17, we are not entitled to obey what the law says. However, our faith and relationship (see personal relationship) in Jesus Christ is what it all brings down to. From our faith in Him, the "meaning of life" is to totally trust and depend in Him glorifying-worshipping Jesus with all our heart (Romans 12). Our actions is the fruit of all this, and what we do (lifestyle) is the result of all this (see purpose in life).
The Bible (see bible testimony) was written more than as a law, but a "love letter" from our Heavenly Father. He is a "justified" and "loving" God, who just wants to best for us-like how a real father treats his son or children.
The difference between "homosexuality" and the others the Bible prohibits can be answered through Scriptures-what God says is more than what man, religion, or even any particular church (man can't judge, which many Christians tend to do) says. Ask Him yourself (Matthew 7:7)! Below are some Scripture verses that you search for "key words-homosexuality" (other issues in life):
Below are some Scripture verses, but you need the whole context of the Bible instead of taking verse by verse literally. God's greatest commandments is to "love God" and "love neighbor" (sex, gender, race, class, etc...), which if we do just both of these-life issues like homosexuality woldn't be such a big deal.
Past Stories
I went to high school with folks that I had a feeling were "gay", but I really never had the chance to interact with them as I was in my own "clique". Then when I went to school at UMM, I started to meet more and more of them. Over my 4 years, I learned how to be "open" and "compassionate" towards them. One time I was with a friend and he told me "out of the blue" that he was "gay". I was at first shocked, but then I started to absorb the reality as I reflected on some past times of hanging out and notice some "clues". I kind of lied that "I knew that". I'm still friends with him and trying to just be the same friend I was before he told me he was gay.
I have another friend of mine that moved out of state for personal growth with God that was "bisexual". He told me this after a week living with me. I was shocked at first too, but just kept loving him as a friend. He would later leave his bisexual lifestyle as he grew in his loving personal relationship with Jesus.
I'm not sure if he completely left, but it's between him and God as I still keep him in my prayers.
Just recently, I met a lesbian couple, which I've met in the past. However, I'm getting to know them more than the others I've met in the past. I'm just going to "keep loving them" as I was reminded by a Christian brother in mind that left that lifestyle. He is part of Exodus Ministries (see down below), which I was referred to this website after chatting with him during a break at City Hills' Regional Leadership Conference awhile back. I'll probably give an update on this story down the road. Till then, I'm just going to keep growing in my personal relationship with God to shine more of Jesus' light to the people He puts in my path day to day!
Below are some links to some resources that might help better understand and love homosexuals, like any other human being.

Former lesbian says her life was changed by love
by Bryan Malley
"TWIN CITIES - "Christians need to know what draws a person into the gay lifestyle and what they can do to help people break free of it," Janet Boynes, a former lesbian and founder of Janet Boynes Ministries, said.
Boynes experienced and witnessed abuse at the hands of four men who fathered seven children with her mother.
"Determined to avoid the same fate for myself, I became a tom-boy," Boynes said. "I hung out with guys and became known as a bully."
Boynes moved from Philadelphia, Penn., to St. Paul to attend college and became a Christian. She later became engaged to a Christian man and the couple enrolled in pre-marital counseling at their church. Boynes' fianc traveled a lot so she spent a lot of time with her girlfriends.
"When a girl I'd met at work initiated a sexual relationship one night, I was caught off guard and went along with it," Boynes said. "Immediately I knew how Eve must have felt. Condemned."
When Boynes revealed her experience to her pastor, he told her the wedding would have to be canceled. She then told her fianc everything, the couple split up and Boynes embraced the gay lifestyle.
"I never found the satisfaction I was looking for in the gay lifestyle," she said. "Instead, I went from relationship to relationship to relationship and became totally confused."
Boynes and her partner sought the advice of a priest and he assured them her lesbian lifestyle was OK, but Boynes continued to wrestle with her conscience and her past Christian life. Fourteen years passed, and Boynes eventually moved to Maple Grove. Whenever she drove past the Maple Grove Assembly of God church, Boynes claims an inner voice would tell her that someday she'd be going to that church.
"The idea stayed with me even though I was doing drugs, cheating on my steady girlfriend, suffering from an eating disorder and extremely unhappy," she said.
One night, Boynes ran to the grocery store and noticed a woman in the parking lot with her groceries at 3 a.m. The woman had been helping her son move into the dorms at North Central Bible College so Boynes knew she was a Christian.
"We talked and talked, and then she invited me to come to her church-Maple Grove Assembly of God," Boynes explained.
Boynes accepted the invitation and later attended a Bible study at the church with nine "feminine women" who showed her love and gave her pointers on how to dress and apply makeup.
"They educated me about spiritual warfare and helped me break the stronghold the devil had erected over my life," Boynes said.
She sold her home and moved in with a Christian family for a year.
"Gradually my mess became the message of salvation," Boynes said. "It was a real struggle, but I wanted God more than I wanted the lesbian lifestyle."
Six years later, Boynes still has to pray daily and seek accountability so that she won't slip back into her former lifestyle. She explained that many gays and lesbians "hate" Christians because they feel condemned.
Recently, she founded Janet Boynes Ministries to share her testimony with those who want and need to hear it.
"Through Janet Boynes Ministries, we hope to minister to the homosexual community by sharing the love of Christ and the power of the testimony of a life changed by that love," Boynes said.
The new organization will also "help churches learn how to reach those struggling with homosexuality and to increase societal awareness on the fact that sexual orientation is a choice."
Boynes will be hosting the first ex-gay booth at the National Education Association convention in Orlando, Fla. on June 29.
"I know God wants me to speak out about these things," Boynes said. "After all, everybody wants the same things: love and acceptance. When God calls us out of darkness and into light (1 Peter 2:9), He calls us in love."

" LARAMIE, Wyo. - A decade after a gay college student was beaten, tied to a fence and left for dead, many in this small college town are still struggling with the aftermath of a crime that triggered nationwide sympathy and brought a re-examination of attitudes toward gays.
Ten years ago, 21-year-old Matthew Shepard died after being beaten and left in the cold by two men he met in a bar. Residents were shaken by the brutality of the crime, and the media descended on the town trying to explain why it happened.
Today, residents lament Shepard's death but insist it doesn't define Laramie or its people.
"It's not representative of Laramie, of Wyoming or the West," said Melodie Edwards, who owns a downtown bookstore.
"We have the same problems here that exist everywhere in the country — racism, sexism, homophobia all exist," said Jim Osborn, a University of Wyoming employee who is gay. "But I think that most people in Laramie are decent, friendly people who understand that while you might not like somebody, and you even have the right to hate somebody, you don't have the right to hurt somebody because of that."
Nestled in a valley between two mountain ranges, Laramie has a population of about 27,000, including roughly 10,000 students at the university.
"It's as close to small-town, rural America as you can get and still have a comprehensive university," said University of Wyoming President Tom Buchanan, who grew up in New York and moved to Wyoming more than 30 years ago.
There was a gay community here in the fall of 1998 when Shepard enrolled at the university. He joined its Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Association, a student group with about 50 members.
Shepard died Oct. 12, five days after his 5-foot-2, 105-pound body was found lashed to the lonely fence outside town. He was beaten so severely — his skull was fractured in six places — that the bicyclist who saw him initially thought he was a scarecrow lying on the ground.
The two men who killed him are serving life sentences in prison.
Residents disagree whether Shepard's death was a hate crime, a drug-induced robbery that went too far or both. Prosecutors' cases included evidence with elements of robbery, drugs and hate against gays, but the court only determined that the men were guilty of murder and not why they killed Shepard.
Whatever the case, life in Laramie changed.
"One of the things that the Matthew Shepard murder did was it reminded all of us, and it continues to remind all of us, that there is no place that is immune from random acts of senseless violence that plague our country, our society," Buchanan said.
Laramie was thrust into the national spotlight by media attracted by the murder of a young gay college student in a small Western town. It also produced an outpouring of films, books and plays.
"A lot of the coverage I believe really capitalized on the mythos of the West," said Osborn, who was chairman of the student gay group when Shepard joined and now works for the university's diversity and equal employment opportunity office. "It was phrases like `He was a different kind of cowboy.' Matt wasn't a cowboy!"
Some of the coverage attempted to blame Laramie for somehow creating the murderers. Osborn recalled seeing one TV report quoting a local man at a bar as saying gay people should expect to be attacked in Wyoming.
"The crime of two people was presented as a crime of the city," Mayor Klaus Hanson said.
Residents say prejudice against gays in Laramie is no different from anywhere else.
"I think people are pretty laissez-faire out here, pretty independent, a pretty accepting state," said Jeff Figg, a retired businessman who moved here six years ago. "This is a much more enlightened area, the exact opposite of what the press portrayed it."
Beth Loffreda, a UW English professor who wrote a book about residents' response to the murder, said that even though Wyoming lawmakers have declined to pass a hate crime law she has noticed a change in how residents treat gays.
"I think it's a little better here for gay and lesbian people than it was 10 years ago," she said.
There wasn't much in the way of publicly marking the 10-year anniversary of Shepard's death. A week ago, the university dedicated a bench that had been donated by a foundation set up by Shepard's parents to help support gay youths.
Osborn, Buchanan and others say the best way to honor Shepard is by treating gays as they would heterosexual people.
"We have realized in the most painful way that we cannot take tolerance and respect for granted," Buchanan said at the bench dedication ceremony. "Instead we must make it an explicit part of our mission even when this posture exposes students, parents, community members and our leaders to ideas and concepts that challenge ingrained ways of thinking.""
"..I have mentioned on numerous occasions that most of the American public--including Christians are clueless as to the diabolical, systematic agenda the gay community has meticulously carried out over the past thirty years.
For example, the removal of homosexuality as a psychological disorder from the American Psychiatric Association's DSM (Diagnostic Statical Manual) in the early 1970's was not the result of convincing, newly discovered evidence which clearly established the theory that this sexual orientation and expression was genetic (in-born). ...
Have you watched TV lately? Do you realize there are over two dozen sit-coms and series (not to mention made for TV movies) that have one or more gay or lesbian characters? Have you noticed how they are presented? Christians are often portrayed as ignorant, intolerant, bigots. Well, it's all part of the strategy...
"But doesn't science tell us that homosexuals are 'born that way'?" "..."Gay gene" researcher Dr. Dean Hamer (himself a gay man) was asked by Scientific American if homosexuality was rooted solely in biology. He replied: "Absolutely not. From twin studies, we already know that half or more of the variability in sexual orientation is not inherited.[4]
Brain researcher and gay activist Dr. Simon LeVay--whose study of the hypothalamus in homosexuals made international headlines--now admits: "At this point, the most widely held opinion [on causation of homosexuality] is that multiple factors play a role."[5]
Concludes psychiatrist Jeffrey Satinover: "There is no evidence that shows that homosexuality is genetic--and none of the research itself claims there is. Only the press and certain researchers do, when speaking in sound bites to the public."[6]..."

" COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Disgraced evangelical pastor Ted Haggard says he was sexually abused as a child and that the experience "started to rage in my mind and in my heart" when he was caught up in a sex scandal involving a male prostitute. Haggard made the remarks in two recent sermons in Morrison, Ill., ABC's "Good Morning America" reported Wednesday....
Haggard said one of his father's employees "had a sexual experience with me" when Haggard was 7, according to audio recordings of the sermons posted on the ABC News Web site.
Haggard said he later became "a conservative Republican, loving the word of God, an evangelical, born-again, spirit-filled, charismatic, all those things."But some of the things that were buried in the depths of the sea from when I was in the second grade started to rage in my mind and in my heart," he said.
In 2006, Haggard was fired as pastor of the 14,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs when a former male prostitute alleged they had a cash-for-sex relationship. The man also said he saw Haggard use methamphetamine. Haggard also stepped down as president of the National Association of Evangelicals.
He has said some of the allegations were exaggerated but he has never offered specifics.
Haggard, who is starting an insurance agency in Colorado Springs, did not immediately return a phone message left by The Associated Press.
Haggard previously had confessed to undisclosed "sexual immorality," and on the new audio he said: "I really did sin."
Haggard said his family suffered severely for his actions.
"My wife — all my sin and shame fell on her. People treated her as if she had fallen," he said. "And my children — they all went through carrying my shame. And I am so sorry that I did that to my family."
Haggard said he became suicidal but eventually emerged with a stronger Christian faith and marriage than he'd ever had.
Haggard said church leaders missed an opportunity to use his scandal to "communicate the gospel worldwide through secular media."
"We consistently blow it" when those opportunities arise, he said.
"A congressman in trouble, that's the time. A family member gets himself in horrible trouble, that's the time. A preacher gets himself in awful trouble, that's the time," he said, his voice rising to a near-shout.
Audio of Haggard's Illinois sermons were posted on http://tedhaggard.com, but the Web site was unavailable late Wednesday, carrying only the message, "Website Is Being Rebuilt."
